The warning signs your house needs rewiring

Wiring rarely fails without notice. It tends to announce itself through heat, smell, sound and repeated electrical faults. The signs below fall into two groups: urgent problems that mean a live safety risk, and slower indicators that mean you should get the installation assessed rather than panic.

Urgent signs: contact a registered electrician now

Some symptoms point to a fault that could cause a fire or a shock, and they should never be left to a routine appointment. Condition still decides the outcome. The proper diagnostic: an EICR

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is the inspection that turns guesswork into evidence. Full rewire or partial rewire?

Not every failing installation needs stripping back to nothing.
