Free for customers, yes, genuinely. There's no booking fee, and you pay the tradesperson directly for the work. Providers pay a small monthly fee to list on Loacally, which keeps the platform running without us taking a cut of any job or adding anything at checkout.
That keeps our incentives simple: help you find the right tradesperson nearby, and nothing else.
A person on our team reviews every application by hand before a tradesperson’s profile goes live on Loacally. We verify each member’s email address and mobile number, and we check by hand the trade registrations and public liability insurance they declare, such as Gas Safe registration for gas work or NICEIC or NAPIT registration for notifiable electrical work.
You can also check a registration yourself on the public register: the Gas Safe Register for gas work, or the Electrical Competent Person Register for electricians. Reviews come only from customers who booked a visit through Loacally. Businesses shown as an unclaimed listing come from public business information; they have not joined Loacally and have not been through these checks.
Because we'd rather get the rest of the experience right first. The price you see on Loacally is the price you'll pay the tradesperson directly, by their preferred method. We don't hold any money, charge any processing fees, or add anything on top.
The trade-off is that there's no built-in payment protection at this stage. We're upfront about that, and we lean on reviews and a clear dispute path to keep standards high.
You can cancel or reschedule from your visit confirmation up to the tradesperson's stated cancellation window, usually 24 hours before. We'll let them know and they'll free up the slot for someone else.
Last-minute changes happen, especially for emergencies, and most trades are happy to accommodate. Drop them a message inside the visit thread, the whole conversation stays in one place.
We are starting in London, across all 32 boroughs plus the City of London. We deliberately started narrow so we could build genuine local density, the kind where you'll consistently find someone in the next street rather than 40 minutes away.
We're now opening in Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester: tradespeople there can apply now and go live as each city opens to customers. If you'd like Loacally in your city, let us know and we'll prioritise based on demand.
